August 15, 1995 (Tuesday) The day we left Philippines to Malaysia. We arrive in Malaysia at around 9;00 A.M.

In the afternoon we brought Xing Xing to Doctor for his cough and flu.

In the evening Stella sent us to Doctor Jeremiah for fever.

This is the the first time Shirley met  Stella and Henry and William.



August 16, 1995 (Wednesday) Stella recommended us to another hotel. The hotel we selected was a ‘Cheap’ hotel only for the ‘local’.

So we moved in to New Hotel she recommended  near the Cinema where she has her shop.


August 17-19, 1995 This next 3 days we went to BCCM  together w/ Stella, Henry and William. using the car of William.

August 12, 1995 (Saturday) Xing Xing's baptismal in Saint Vincent Baguio in the Philippines. After the baptismal we went to Camp John Hay for picnic.


August 14, 1995 (Monday) The day we left Baguio going to Manila by airplane. After reaching Manila we go to Philippine Village Hotel. It is a nice Hotel.

July 01, 1995 (Saturday) Birthday party of Mariela. They celebrated in the house of  Nelson.

July 02, 1995 (Sunday) Birthday of son of Jose and Maria.


July 03, 1995 (Monday) The temporary maid started on this day. Carlos was the one who  look for maid (Josefina) from km 22.


July 07, 1995 (Friday) It was raining. Have been to Bank Sudameris to withdraw money  for ticket after that to banco Oriental to deposit 1,000 dollars  to Shirley account.

We also went to (infantil) to inject Xing Xing for  hepatitis B. I paid 70000 Guaranies for the hepatitis injection.

Shirley brought Xing to Centro de Salud in Km 16 at 8:00 A.M for free injection of Sarampionosa.
As usual, they called Leonardo texi.

June 21, 1995(Wednesday) At 1:00 p.m we went to the house of Leonardos mother and brother to get oranges. There are more than 4 bags of mandarine, lemon and oranges. At night Yee and Xing eat a lot of oranges.





June 23, 1995 (Friday) Leonardo invited us to go to taxi driver's reunion tomorrow in Km 21. One ticket worth 4000 guaranies.


June 24, 1995 (Saturday) It has strong wind and it's raining and has also lightning. A few minutes that has no light. We didn't able to go to taxi driver reunion party because of strong rain. Instead Leonardo just sent the food to us.

2nd Anniversary day

June 09(Friday) Our 2nd Anniversary day. We eat in Shangri-la (Lee garden) to celebrate our anniversary. Around 70,000 Guaranies for the restaurant.
Xing Xing always wants to crawl under the chairs and table.

Hernandarias

June 05(Monday) In the morning Lorenie told Shirley that the son of Nelson found and tied the cow.


June 06(Tuesday) I brought the mother and son with me  to Hernandarias after that I collected the photographs of Lilians birthday.

Before going back to Macosur we Passed to Km 16 for check up of Xing (cough).

They give him Nebulization. Yee paid 100000 Guaranies for taxi. We were using that car 1:00 P.M up to 6:00 P.M.

June 03(Saturday) At night we attend the birthday party of Christian David (son of Paiva). We stayed there up to 10:30 P.M. Xing was very happy looking at the light of Video.

June 04(Sunday) Xing and Shirley attended  the birthday party of Leonardo Ramon (son of Lillian and Leonardo). While I am returning from Asuncion.

The Cow is gone

May 26, 1995 (Saturday) The Cow was gone.

May 27, 1995 (Sunday) The photographer came to give us the photo of Luis mothers Cumpleanos. At the same time Xing also took photographs together w/ us and the puppy.

May 28, 1995 (Monday) Went to Km. 16 for check up of Xing Xing. This time we tried another Doctor (Dr. Caballero) introduced by the driver Leonardo.

Lillian, taxi driver wife,  also brought their children check up (Ramon’s face bitten by the dog). The time for check up of Dr Caballero is afternoon.



May 29, 1995 (Tuesday) Went to Km.19 to see the cow. We went there first w/ Silvina, Caballero, Jose by using the car of Macosur.

 The second time we Went by taxi. We brought the picture of us together with the cow then we realize that cow is not belonging to us.

After that we went Immediately to house of Lorenie's mother and there we found the Cow.

May 24, 1995 (Wednesday) Moved to Uchiyamada hotel. For dinner we eat in Uchiyamada restaurant. We cooked in our Table.


May 25, 1995 (Thursday) Went to park in Asuncion to see the pigeons. We bought corn For the pigeons. We also saw the children living on the squatter area. Gave them orange (mandarin).

 It was cold day We slept that day in San martin hotel.

We have dinner in Lee Garden together w/ Marcos after that Marcos  use his car to bring us  to see a painting exhibition.

May 23, 1995 (Tuesday) Sent Paul to airport. We eat dinner in diamond restaurant.

Mother's Day

May 15, 1995 (Monday) Mother’s Day Out to CDE just to eat in the restaurant. We lunch at in Tokyo restaurant to celebrate mother's day. I bought 1 red flower for Xing as regalo for his mother.




May 20, 1995 (Sunday) Today we went to Quintana's factory to attend the birthday of Luis mother. We gave her 20,000 guaranies as regalo.

May 01, 1995 (Monday) Today's is worker's day. At night we have asado together w/ Leonardo and Lilian, Luis and Vilda. We ate outside the house.


May 02, 1995 (Tuesday) We went to CDE to open a bank account of Shirley. It's needed in Order to get cedula. The minimum is U.S$ 5,000. We only deposit 4000.


May 04, 1995 (Thursday) Went to Km.16 to get certificate of Police that we are living here in Macosur. Our witnesses were Francisco and his wife Elvisra. We paid 20,000 guaranies for the certificate.

After that we went to Tokyo restaurant for Lunch.

Dinner

April 12, 1995 (Wednesday) It's a non-working day because of Holy week. We just stayed in Macosur for  carpentry works.

April 13, 1995 (Thursday) Holy Thursday.  Finished the shoe shelves.

April 16, 1995 (Sunday) We invited Lillian and Leonardo, Luis and Vilda to eat dinner in our house but Vilda did not able to come. Cooked fried chicken and curry beef and rice.

April 29, 1995 (Saturday) Went to CDE with by texi because  it was raining. We paid the taxi forty thousand guaranies.

 It was Marcelo's birthday we bought toy as regalo for him. We bought also a table chair for Xing worth 169,420 guaranies and some clothes for him.

April 30, 1995 (Sunday) Jose and the wife came and we cooked fish asado. At night we just ate sardines w/ rice w/ Vilda.

March 24, 1995 (Friday) Today is the 6th months of Xing Xing. We went to km. 41 for his check

We bought thandador for Xing Xing. In the afternoon we went to clinic of Doctor Cardozo to inject Xing Xing.

March 06, 1995 (Monday) Went to Km 41 to get birth Certificate of Xing Xing in Hospital (important for his document). In the afternoon we went back again to Asuncion. We took the 6:30 P.M bus.


March 07,1995(Tuesday) We went to Agency and one of the staff brought us to government department for Identification Card of Xing Xing.

We went there in the morning for Cedula and in the afternoon we went to another department for passport.


March 08, 1995 (Wednesday) We moved to  Japanese Hotel Wednesday morning because it's near to  Agency. There is much better than San Martin. That Hotel has restaurant.

No result about the cedula no. of Xing Xing.


March 09, 1995 (Thursday) We took taxi going to Identification office to ask what is the no. of cedula of Xing Xing but no result yet so we go directly to terminal back to Macosur.


March 22, 1995 (Wednesday) Xing Xing can already say ma-ma. Ana was the one who heard first


March 23 1995 (Thursday) I  came back from Asuncion with the cedula and passport of Xing Xing.

March 01, 1995 (Wednesday) Today in non working holiday (no work). I went to CDE to buy ticket going to Asuncion.


March 02, 1995 (Thursday) We took the 9:00 A.M bus going to Asuncion to process passport of Xing Xing and Cedula.

After we reach Hotel San Martin we took a rest and directly going to Agency. We didn’t able to do it because the birth Certificate of Xing Xing in hospital was needed.

In the afternoon Xing and Shirley stayed in San Martin while I went to Limpio factory.


March 03, 1995 (Friday) All of us went  to Dr. Melenie's factory (Limpio).
In the afternoon  went to another factory w/ Marcos while the mother and son stayed in Hotel San martin.

At night we have dinner  in Diamond restaurant.


March 04, 1995 (Saturday) We came back to Macosur and go again on Monday.

First trip to Brazil

January 31, 1995 (Tuesday)    To Cascavel in Brazil following Mr. Manfred.

Cascavel is a city, but Manfred live in the city outskirt. So for the few days in Cascavel, I stay mainly in his area.

He recommended a small hotel. A clean friendly hotel on a hill. Looking out from my hotel room, is a vast green country side similar to the above photo from internet.

Cascavel, the quite part of Cascavel where I stay,  is a clean and comfortable place.

One late afternoon, a small group of local dancers with a couple big drums marched into the small hotel lobby and start beating  the drum and dance.

I did not watch too long and walked elsewhere.  It they could use a small drums with lower noice, I would enjoy the rest of the afternoon with them.

  January 28, 1995 (Saturday)    Vilda got Guava and cooked jam here in the house.   

  

January 29, 1995 (Sunday)    Xing  Xing's  first taste of food (Nestle in bottle).  He  has eaten 3 spoons of nestle.  

Injection

January 24, 1995 (Tuesday)   Today  is  the  4th months of Xing Xing. We did  not  go  to hospital because I was waiting for Manfred.   

  

January 25, 1995 (Wednesday)     Went  to km 41 (hospital) for the 4th month check up of  Xing Xing. Xing Xing's weight is 5 kilos 650 g. He's 60.5 cm. tall.    

January 27, 1995 (Friday)    Doctor Cardozo came here to Macosur to inject Xing Xing.    He injected triple o D.P.T (Difteria -tetanus- Tos  convulsas) and  also  he injected for Anti-Haemophilus influenza b.  He  let Xing take medicine for sabin oral (Anti polio).     Xing Xing cried a lot because of his leg (injection).

  January 21, 1995 (Saturday)     We  went to Asuncion. Xing Xing's first time to  travel.   We slept in San Martin Hotel.  We met Paul in Asuncion to send him off to Taiwan.

     

January 22, 1995 (Sunday)      We took the 1:30 P.M bus back to Macosur.    

Caballero Family

Sunday. Thinking of somewhere for an outing, we thought of Caballero family.

Their small wooden house also served as a sundry shop of the area. The small store is just 5 minutes across the highway. The wife also delivered few months ago. We want to see how their baby getting on.

We sat in front Caballero's shop for a bottle of Pepsi.

        January 01, 1995 (Sunday)   It's New Year   Early  in the morning at around 5:30 A.M Xing Xing fell down from the bed.

    We went at 8:00 in the church but we arrived late because the mass finished at 8:30 A.M.

      January 03, 1995 (Tuesday) Workers started their work this year.  

January 04, 1995 (Wednesday)     Went to Km. 41 (hospital) for the check up of Xing Xing. He's now 3 months and 10 days. He's weight is already 5 kilos and 100 g. The measurement of head is 40 cm. and he is 60 cm. tall.

January 05, 1995 (Thursday)    The doctor said he will come to Macosur  for the injection of Xing Xing but he did not come.

First day of a new year 1995.  We decided to go for a short outing near by. There is no other batter place near by then this Cathedral.  It is just 1 kilometer from our factory.

Maria Auxiliadora is the Patroness of Agriculture in Alto Parana. In this district, every May 24th is a holiday for the local people.

On this day all Catholic faithful turns to the Cathedral dedicated to the Virgin of Don Bosco.

9:00AM we went to attend the civil marriage ceremony of Lorenie in their house. Lorenie's house is just opposite the highway 5 minutes walk from our staff quarter.

At night we attended their church wedding at Maria Auxiliadora Cathedral. 
Macosur Manager Jose Quintana, wife Mirta and three children came also.

December 09, 1994 (Friday) Shirley went to CDE with Vilda to buy a new pair of shoes to ware during the wedding of Lorenie.
Also bought some Christmas toys for the kids of workers.

December 06, 1994 (Tuesday) It is a Sunny day.

After lunch, Shirley bath the baby boy first then she herself took a bath  and changed with nice drasses -- a sign of going out for a big function. Yes it is.

Today is the drawing day of  Christmas Lucky Draw and Shirley has been exciting since morning. 

Jose is the one who organized this Christmas Lucky Draw (Sorteo).  The winning prize is a young cow. 

To joint in this game, participant get a coupon from Jose for 5,000 Guaranies (US$2.50). Your name will be written in a piece of paper deposite in a box together with other names.  On the drawing day a piece of name will be picked. That will be the Lucky winner. The winner get the prize -- a young cow.

So Shirley bought 3 coupons for our family of 3 members.

And today is the drawing day.   

During tea break all factory workers get together in front the office ground and wait eagerly.  From the box containing piece paper of names, some one picked up a name and ....... that is the name "Shirley" !

The cow wanted to escape. Its only the secondary day she, the cow, put up with us.

Afternoon I went to Minga Guazu hardware shop to but a thick string to tie the cow.

Morning, I went alone to Ciudad del Este to buy couple dozens of Swiss multipurpose knife as Christmas souvenir for the man workers. Shirley will buy for the lady workers tomorrow.

These are low cost made in China imitation Swiss Knife.

Bought a set of 'Silverstone' cooking utensil for Shirley as Christmas gift.

December 19, 1994 (Monday) Vilda and Shirley went to CDE to buy some more gifts for the children of  worker.  Bought some dolls, cart and car (toys).

December 20, 1994 (Tuesday) Gave out gifts to the workers (mini knife)  and dolls to Lorie, Amelia and Norma.

December 21, 1994 (Wednesday) It is raining.

December 24, 1994 (Saturday)

Afternoon Ya Chin, Ya Ling and their parents and a relative came to Macosur. They brought for us some grapes. They came to see our baby.

Evening, the wife and sister of Jose came here to celebrate Christmas Eve.


They cooked Chipa Guazu, and made Lyrico (mixed fruit with Coca Cola).
We barbequed chicken and pork with cha-sui sauce.



December 25, 1994 (Sunday) stay at home this whole Christmas Day. The baby is too young to being for outing.

  Paul called Macos to come for year end inspection.

November 25, 1994 (Friday) Doctor came to the house at around 11:30 A.M for Xing Xing's injection. He injected 2 legs of Xing Xing. The payment was 170,000 guaranies.

Came back at around 10:00 P.M from Asuncion.

November 26, 1994 (Saturday) Lorenie came here to watch Xing Xing , Shirley sew her civil wedding clothes, starting 12:00 noon and finished at around 5:30 P.M.

Shirley taught Elvira (Sra. Francisco) how to cook pancit noodle in their house but without meat. Sr. and Sra. likes to eat pancit



October 25, 1994(Tuesday) We rode taxi (friend of Silvina) to hospital vise versa. The weight of Xing Xing is now 3 kilos 750 g. He is 52 cm. and the measure of his head is 36.5 cm. Xing Xing did not cry at all when the doctor checking him in the hospital.

Xing Xing has difficulty in bowling so when he passed stool he cried so loud.

In the afternoon Ana came together with baby son Christian. She asked to take photo of Xing Xing and Christian.

Oct. 10, 1994 (Monday) Shirley went to Hospital (Km.41) w/ Maria for Chun Xing's 2nd check up. The doctor told to wash Chun Xing w/ boiled Guava leaves and w/ medical soap and creme.

Went over to Supermercado for shopping.


Oct 20, 1994 (Thursday) Maria and Shirley went to CDE it was raining They bought some ingredients for cooking this coming Saturday. We are going to celebrate one month old of Xing Xing.

I stay at home to take care of Xing Xing.


October 21, 1994 (Friday) Shirley busy chopping the ingredients (vegetable) for tomorrow. while I took care of Xing Xing.


October 22, 1994 (Saturday) We celebrated 1 month old of Xing Xing. Invited some friends. Cooked barbeque chasiw and chicken, noodle (pancit) and chicken curry.Sr. and Sra. Francisco asked Shirley to teach Elvira cooking pancit and curry.

It was raining, so we did not eat in the garden but instead we eat in the veranda of Sr. francisco.

Oct 07, 1994 (Friday) Went to Asuncion for inspection in Dr. Millanies factory.
Mr. Ole came to Macosur together w/ his family.

Admitted to hospital again

Oct. 01, 1994 (Saturday) Went back to hospital to remove Shirley stitches. After removing stitches suddenly vomiting, stomach pain at the same time diarrhea.

Doctor confined her in hospital Saturday 12:00 midday up to Monday morning.


Oct 03, 1994 (Monday) Before Shirley release from hospital CHUN XING has his checkup.

We paid 268840 guaranies for Shirley confine and 15000 guaranies for CHUN XING'S first check up.

At around 11:15  went to hospital. The hospital is only half day starting to close when we arrived.

At 7:42 the baby already delivered and started crying.

We're out from hospital and paid our bill and back to Macosur. Couldn’t find taxi so telephoned Sr. Francisco to fetch us and Caballero came after 30 minutes.

Sept. 16, 1994 (Friday) Caballero sent us to hospital for check up. The doctor asked to come back again on Tuesday if without any show of delivery. We bought 1 sack of Japanese rice and corn for the chicken and cock.

Black Mulberry-Morus nigra

The Black mulberry (Morus nigrais) is a flowering plant in the family Moraceae (mulberry family), tribe Moreae.

A common tree grown in the plain for shade.

The dark purple colored fruit is edible, but is rarely eaten by the local people.


The berry-like fruit of the Black Mulberry  has a very tart, sweet taste.

The Black Mulbery is a medium sized tree usually only reaching 20-30 ft, but has been know to reach up to 70ft tall.

The tree  prefer full sun.

The Mulberry has a long history in Chinese medicine with all parts of the tree, including the fruit, used to treat a wide range of ailments. The fruit is considered to have a tonic effect on the kidneys as well as helping digestive functions and premature greying of the hair.

August 28,1994 (Sunday) Feeling geedy. The whole day sitting on the arm chair. Did not eat anything.

August 29,1994 (Monday) We went to Km.41 for  check up. Doctor checks my blood (Analysis). We'll come back tomorrow for the result. Mr. Francisco sent us and also wait for us.

August 30,1994 (Tuesday) Went back to Km.41 to get the result of Analysis. The doctor said It is fine. But the nurse said his blood pressure is low.

August 31,1994 (Wednesday) Jose cleaned the tank.   

Bush fire

August 23, 1994 (Tuesday) There's a strong bush fire. The fire was started from the neighbor at 4:00 in the afternoon. At 6:30 it's already in Macosur's land.

The firemen came for three times. I helped Luis (guard) and Caballero to stop the fire going to Ramirez house. We took photograph behind the fire.

Each winter there will be a bush fire in the wilderness at the North of our factory, but this year of 1994 is the most serious according to the local. This happen to be our first winter in Paraguay (We came at Spring last year after Winter) to witness an exciting bush fire that last for 2 weeks. On 23rd August 1994 night fall the fire reached perilously close almost 50 meters to factory building. This is a dangerous zone.

Louis, the security guide with a gun in the photo, called the other 3 factory staff who live just opposit the factory across the highway and together a team of 6 of us (including me in the picture) tried to cut out a line on the dried grass land to stop the fire from advancing toward the factory.

The most valuable assets of this factory are the wood flooring (property of the Paraguay company) and the 4 sets of wood working machines (belonging to my Taiwanese company)

With the help of wind direction, we managed to preventing the fire from advancing, thought the fire stay strong and continued to burn for the next few days.

Fortunately the fire was brought under control, though not extinguished, before it reached the factory. Thanks to the efforts of the Louis, Kabarello and Nelson and his son. Fortunatly they all live near by.

The next morning, the fire around subsided. (photo above), but at the distand field the small fire continue for the next few days.

Where does the fire came from?

On the north of our factory is a maize field of few acares. Before the farmers start their planting each Spring, local farmers usually deliberately setting small blazes to land-clearing. Strong wind and dry weather promote the fire to cover much greater area.

Spring season came after the fire incident on 23-8-1994 and exactly 1 month later Wong Chun Xing was born on 24-9-1994. We named him CHUN XING means Spring Star. (Should have named him Fire Spring).

Now the above group photos of the smiling faces against a background fierce fire bring back so much warm memories of our exciting days in the far distant country Paraguay.

August 24,1994 (Wednesday) Workers worked outside the factory because of too much smoke from the fire last night. It's painful for the eye.

Luis was absent. Jose was the guard. At night the fire started again going at the back of Machimbradora line. Jose called the firemen again. Sr. Francisco rode in the bulldozer to take some water and trying to stop the fire.

August 25,1994 (Thursday) The workers finished their worked at 2:00. They will go to cemetery.

Francisco , Marcelo and us had a walk to take photo of the burned land.

Maria, and us with Caballero car went to Km41 (Supermercado) to buy  wooden washing machine and vacuum cleaner.

August 19,1994 (Friday) The mama of Marcelo was looking for him for how many minutes. They found Marcelo in the house in front of the computer.

August 13,1994 (Saturday) To Ciudad del Este . Bought the air pot worth 96 U.S$ also a jean cloth for making bag for putting baby's things whenever we stroll.

August 14,1994 (Sunday) Went to Km.41 bought 2 cans of paint (yellow and white). Painted the store room (stripe) while Shirley sewing the jeans bag.

August 15,1994 (Monday) Today has no work(Asuncion Day). Jose, Cabana and Eduardo came to cement the office (red).The wife of Jose and the son also came. Shirley cooked barbeque fish and veg. curry.

Went to Ciudad del Este. Eat lunch in Tokyo restaurant this time is boufey (eat as many as you can )for only 6000 guaranies.

August 08,1994 (Monday) After 5:00 P.M Raul sent us to Km.16 to buy bed for baby and

the baby bath at the same time we also bought our bed. The shop sent us to macosur.

August 12,1994 (Friday) Went to Km.41 for Shirley 8th monthly pregnancy check up. The doctor told to go on 8th or 9th next month. Expected date will be on 15th of September.

Brought the computer set and the table to  the house for Jose to cement the floor.

August 03,1994 (Wednesday) Went to Ciudad again to buy ticket for tomorrow going to Asuncion.

Bought 4 diskette again.

August 04,1994 (Thursday) Gone going to Asuncion with 9:00 A.M bus (Nuestra Sra. dela Asuncion). In the afternoon Maria came to office to learn typing tutor.

August 01, 1994 (Monday) The seller of the fish came. Bought a fish for 20,000 Guaranies (4 kilos). he is coming on Friday to collect the money.

August 02,1994 (Tuesday) Jose started cleaning the bathroom in the kitchen.

July 29, 1994 (Friday) The workers worked half day only. Machimbradora had their barbeque in the factory while others already gone home. Every one gave gifts for their friends (dia del Amistad). Maria and Shirley went to Km. 41 to buy gifts for the workers.

July 31, 1994 (Sunday) Francisco invited us to eat barbeque fish in their house. The sister of Francisco came together with her friends.

July 21, 1994 (Thursday) There are 4 tracks came to deliver the shipment pallets to  Paranagua.

For dinner, went to eat dinner in Ciudad del este. Howard,  Paul, Mr. Quintana, and us.

July 27, 1994 (Wednesday) Prior staff Howard, Paul, 2 of us together with Macosur Manager Jose Antonio, Quintana and Francisco had a meeting in the afternoon. This is the first time of getting together from the 2 company.

Jose has given us his regalo for Amigo de la Amistad.

At night a man trespassed in Macosur compound from the back side. Luis checks him and Quintana took the gun. The man seems crazy.

For dinner I cooked rice, fried fish, cauli flower w/ ginger and sardines requested by Howard.

Today he put up at our quarter at the opposite our room.

1 Year annivesary

July 16, 1994 (Saturday) Today is our 1 year wedding anniversary (Bahai wedding). We went to Tokyo Restaurant. We bought some things for baby like pillow, blanket, safety pin, and sock.

Mngs Cora's letter Mng. Ben delivered on 19th of June ‘94. She delivered twin baby boys. Paul cooked Sweet red beans.

July 17, 1994 (Sunday) Today is our 1 wedding anniversaries in Catholic. I bath the black puppy.

July 20, 1994 (Wednesday) Howard Chai arrived in Macosur. We ate lunch in Ciudad del este  Mr.Ole, Marcos, Howard, Paul, and 2 of us.

July 08, 1994 (Friday) Went to Km. 41 for my 7th month check up. As usual the doctor scan and this time he informed is a boy (baron) boy.

 Her weight is 61.7 Kgs.

Eat lunch in Km. 41. New style can get as much as you want.  Worth 9000 Guaranies.

We bought milk of the cow for black and brown puppies. Paul and Quintana went to San Pedro and to Asuncion Tomorrow  and may come back on Monday. At night it was so cold.

Volley ball season

July 05, 1994 (Tuesday) The brothers Carlos and Luis (Guard) started putting the net for playing volley ball this year. Pedro, Sr. Francisco, Luis and another guy were the first persons who played volleyball this afternoon.

Let the 2 puppies (brownie and blackie) eat the chicken bone while we were eating. Teaching the puppies to stand by giving them bones high above their heads.

Wedding of Jose Farias

July 02, 1994 (Saturday) At 9:00 we went to Auxiliadora church to attend wedding of Jose Farias and baptismal of their 1 year old son.

Gave 50000 Guaranies as their gift and clothes for their son.

Shirley was the photographer of their ceremony.

After attending we go directly to Ciudad del Este.  This time we bought 1 set of bottle feeding. Eat Curry rice and very hot soup (chili) in the Chinese restaurant.

 June 30 1994 (Thursday)   Mr.  Ole  supposed to come to bring the money for  us  and  for buying  computer. He just called and he said cannot come  because has a problem in his car.

At  10;00AM  went to Km. 20 (church) to attend  the  wedding  of Isavelino Bernachea (macosur worker) We gave them 20000 guaranies as a gift. After attending went to near restaurant and eat empanada  and sandwich. On our way back home suddenly the  strong  rain came.

   Paul just came back from Brazil.    We let the 2 puppies slept inside the house.  



  June 20, 1994 (Monday)    Workers started their work in the afternoon at 12:30 P.M.    Lucy did not come today she step on the nail.

 Lorenie cooked rice and fried eggs w/ tuna fish.  


   June 21,1994 (Tuesday)    Our new maid Maria Benitez started work today.    Hugo is making shade outside the window  



Dinner, eat fried surubi fish and chicken w/ dumpling soup.

Maria  cooked  potato w/ tuna fish and egg (in the  oven).  She baked  vanilla  cake  w/ 1 banana and mixed w/  royal.  She  also cooked the Surubi for our dinner.

 
June 23, 1994 (Thursday)     Esmelda  (mama of Eduardo) came to Macosur. She gave  cloth for baby as a pasalubong.  

Mr.  Ole  came  .Mr. Ole, Paul and I went  to  Factory  of Sanabria  for checking. Before 12:00 came back from Sanabria factory.    Maria cooked egg w/ tuna fish and also salsa.




   

June 26,1994(Sunday)   We went out from the house at 12:00 noon. We took the 2:00  P.M Senora Nuestra del Asuncion going to Asuncion.


First thing Shirley did after getting down from the bus was vomit.  Luckily there was a big rubbish drum beside.


Mr. Ole was already waiting for 1 hour. He sent us to Paramanta Hotel.  We have dinner in Paramanta Hotel. We ordered  Brazilian  soup (red beans w/ pork), omelets w/ mushroom and  chicken w/ curry rice. After eating we borrowed tape (Godfather  I & II  ) but we weren't able to watch because it's an Italian film.  


 June 27,1994 (Monday)    As usual early in the morning we ate delicious breakfast  food in Paramanta Hotel.    Mr.  Ole came to fetch us going to National Police for  finger prints. After National police went to Authenticate our certificate and then went for another police station and they got our  finger prints  again their and after that went to authenticate again  the small  form.

 Mr. Ole gave us all our original  documents  because it's already finished . We only need to wait the cedula (immigration I.D.)    We took 12:00 noon bus (Rysa) going back to Macosur.

  June 10,1994 (Friday)   To  Km. 41 for 6 months check up. After that we go directly  to eat  lunch in Shirosawa restaurant and to Supermercado.

We  bought bathroom mat, orange, grapes, candy, film and some things to eat.

  No people in  the machimbradora line because of no more work there.




  June 15,1994 (Wednesday)   On  the line produced Curupay S3S using the machine for  making parquet.

  At  night Mr. Jose Antonio came and brought a  paper  documents from police to be signed by by us for  residential.  




  June 16,1994 (Thursday)  

   Paul  went  to  Brazil at night to  see  the  parquet  factory (Brazilian).

  First  night the 2 puppies slept in the drainage where  they were born. We brought them something to eat.



  June 17,1994 (Friday)    Walk up at 7:30 A.M. Taiwan phoned and asking for Paul.    This is unusual.

  June 18, 1994 (Saturday)    I went to Ciudad alone. Bought some dim sum, fish  thread for knitting and orange (mandarin).

  Rice and chicken with sugar and soy sauce and we  eat under the atis and guava tree. Together w/ us were the 2 puppies.

Ana has a baby boy

June 03, 1994 (Friday)    Paiva came to inform that Ana already delivered and Ana asked Shirley to visit them.  Ana  wasn't normal in delivering its caesarian.

 
  June 04, 1994 (Saturday)    Went to Ciudad del este. Eat Japanese food (Tokyo restaurant)  

  Bought  gift  (stretch suit) for the newborn baby  of  Ana  and Paiva.


  June 05, 1994 (Sunday)   At  3:00 went to Km. 16 to visit Ana and the baby. We gave  our gift  and  the 10,000 Guaranies from Paul. After going  there  we went for hamburger and empanada with 1 cup each of coffee.

  At night Paul invited us to eat in a Chinese restaurant we never been before. Mrs. Quintana and the two kids already waiting  for us there in the restaurant. The foods are all nice.

    The  fishseller came to Macosur. We  bought  big fish 3 kilos and it costs 18000 Guaranies. Paul cooked half of it. It's delicious. We  eat with rice while Paul eats with noodles.

Buying baby things

May 28,1994 (Saturday) Today we went to old market in ciudad del este for shopping for the things of baby. We spend less than 100,000 Guaranies. Also bought thread for knitting. After buying we go directly to Centro to buy the things we need in the office like cutter, stabilo and fine pen. In Continental shop we bought 1 toy for baby (small ball for football).

A year ago before we left Hong Kong for Paraguay, I bought a book 'Mother and  Baby' for Shirley. This book proof to be useful and necessary now as we are becoming first time parent.

We ate in a Chinese restaurant. We ordered chau fan and peas vegetable, shrimp soup and tim sum.

It cost 32000 Guaranies.

Today we did not buy many things in Supermercado. We spend more than 200,000 Guaranies. We go back to Macosur at 5:30 P.M. Paul saw us on the way and asked us to go to Quintanas house to drink Chicken soup. He cooked it.

May 29, 1994 (Sunday) At 2:00 P.M we went to Km.16 with the wife of Luis (guard) for my haircut.

After his haircut I decided to have a haircut and curl my front bangs. After the haircut we went to eat Hamburger.

May 30, 1994 (Monday) There is no much work in the factory. The workers are still piling up the guatambu for steam.

 It rained. Paul and Shirley together with 2 workers re selected the C class because of too much blue stand(1*3).

May 25,1994 (Wednesday) Eat dinner in Ciudad del este w/ Quintana, Raul Paul . Paul was the one who paid the bill.

May 26,1994 (Thursday) The seller of a fish came to factory. Shirley bought 3 kilos worth 3500 Guaranies per kilo. Lucy cooked by putting in the oven.

Paul and Quintana ate lunch outside. Silvina, Pedro ,Jose Lorie and Lucy ate lunch in the house of Quintana. They also bought big fish.

May 27,1994 (Friday) Started inventory. There is no much work in the factory because of stop production. they only pile the woods (For steam).

May 23, 1994 (Monday) Went to Ciudad del este (National Police) to asked to give us residential. The police took our fingerprints and we paid 20,000 Guaranies each. The police told us to collect the I.D tomorrow.

May 24, 1994 (Tuesday) I  went to Ciudad del Este alone to collect the Identification card.

No work today Mr.Ole and Marcos came at 9:30 A.M to Macosur to discussed about the work of Prior.

I arrived at 10:00 from Ciudad and gave immediately the passport and I.D card to Mr. Ole.

Mr. Ole told me that he already received Shirley police clearance from Baguio City.

The meeting was held in the house of Mr. Quintana. and finished at around 5:30 P.M. It's already dark.

Paul and I arguing about the continuation of Macosur. He strongly wanted to cease operation while I support the factory can run for another 4 years.

We supposed to go to police station for identification documents but Quintana said postponed on Monday.

Lucy ordered to Caballero the pork meat. Eat dinner in Ciudad del este w/ Quintana and Paul. We ordered soup w/ shrimp.

At 9:30 we went to the house of Luis (guard) to watch on telivision the contestant of Miss Universe. Celebration was held in Philippines.

We weren't able to finish because Luis came at 11;30 to pick us.

May 22,1994 (Sunday) We had a walk until we reach the house of Luis and asked her to come with us.

The neighbor of Luis (lady) gave us some Mandarina and some leaves for remedy like for heart and for stomach.

Have a party nearby (disco) until 11:00 P.M. The music was very loud.

Unexpected arrival

May 13, 1994 (Friday)

Went to km.41 for Shirley check up. Doctor’s calculation of the pregnancy is 22 weeks and 1 day.

This time they do not have the prenavit tablet. Doctor asked us to buy in Ciudad del Este.

We ate in Shirosawa restaurant after eating went to buy some foods in Supermercado like grapes and maggi noodles also lolly pop, etc.

Arrived in Macosur at 1:30.

May 18, 1994 (Wednesday) After breakfast I and Mr. Quintana went to Ciudad del Este to look for a computer. But end up not looking for a computer because Mr. Quintana withdraws some money from the bank and he doesn't want to walk around with lot of money on the hand.

May 19, 1994 (Thursday) Paul arrived in Macosur after our breakfast. He didn't informed us that he is coming. It has been raining since this morning. We only have some Guaranies (money) left. Less than 10000 Guaranies.

6 new born puppies

May 09, 1994 (Monday) Puki delivered 6 puppies inside the dog house. Big puppies. 3 different colors 2 color coffee, 2 black and white and 2 pure black. At night the mother of Puki (Rosie) was the one who slept inside the dog house and Puki slept outside the house bec. Rosie doesn't want Puki to come inside the dog house.

May 10,1994 (Tuesday) Lucy gone home because of stomach ache. Shirley gave her one bottle of Chinese pills. Lorenie was the one who cooked lunch for us. She cooked fideo with beef and cheese sauce.



May 11, 1994 (Wednesday) Lucy did not come vacation for three days from Tuesday thru Thursday. Lorenie cooked delicious toasted chicken but she forgot to switch off the fire of the oven.

Mr. Ole and Marcos came to factory for only few minutes.

It was raining. Raul and two of us went to factory of Quintana to see the lump parquet.

Went to ciudad del este. We bought a singer sewing machine from OHARA SHOP at  500,000 Guaranies.

April 24,1994 (Sunday) The first item Shirley made with the sawing machine is  curtain for our room.

I  painted the 4 chairs. At night we had  Japanese noodle, boiled banana and corn.

April 25,1994 (Monday) Went to factory of Carlos Sanavia to inspect the Grapia for sending to Taiwan together with us is Hugo Vera (worker of head cutting machine ).

On the way home I asked Carlos Sanavia  to stop at the road side for a while Hugo and I  went down the car to see the a group congregated for faith heeling

Shirley said the baby kicked her for 4 times while sitting in the office.

Replied a fax from Howard Chai. Finished the fax at 6:00 and Shirley sent to Mr. ole to refax to Taiwan.

April 28,1994 (Thursday)

A worker, Cabana, gave Shirley Mandarin oranges.


April 30 1994 (Saturday) Went to ciudad del este  buy shoes 1 pair rubber shoes for me and 2 pairs of shoes for Shirley color red and blue.

And a stop watch for Luis Cuevas (worker in the factory).

We have lunch at the food stall of a Chinese deaf couple.  Both husband and wife are deaf. The husband is the cook while the wife running the food stall.  There are several Chinese food stall here. Most of customer are Chinese.


After reaching home at around 3:00 took a bus again to Km.20 to attend the Party of Macosur workers.


We only sat there for the last 45 minutes. Shirley may be interested but the party is too massy and noisy for me.

They at first want to held the party in the factory compound but the manager suggested they hold the party else where. Previously they had the party in the factory but always ended the party with the big mass.

April 06, 1994 (Wednesday) At 7:30 A.M was raining and power failure as well so the machine stopped.

Today is Torres birthday

April 07, 1994 (Thursday) Went to Ciudad to book ticket going to Asuncion. The bus is 12:00 midnight tonight and comes back tomorrow. Asuncion office earlier called me to Asuncion to collect the result of our Analysis. The health department will only release the health report directly to the person no a third person. So I have to collect personally myself.


April 08, 1994 (Friday) Return home by 1:30PM Bus from Asuncion arrived Macosur at 6:00 P.M.
Bought  pasalubong for Shirley assorted biscuits from Tiyo Lucas restaurant.



April 09, 1994 (Saturday) went to ciudad del este.

April 10,1994 (Sunday Painted chair the color green . The paint is not enough.


April 11, 1994 (Monday) Went to Km. 41 for check up. Doctor Tanaka did not scanne the baby today.

Walk over to Japanese restaurant to eat lunch soup noodle and fried noodle.

While waiting for the bus and Mr. Quintana happen to come to have lunch at the Japanese Restaurant. We can wait for him to follow his car home.


April 12, 1994 (Tuesday) Jose and other workers cleaned the big warehouse room beside my office for dining hall.

At 2:00 P.M we went to Timberland to inspect the S4S for send to Taiwan. The quality is good.

The ready bundled pallet opened and we started inspection. The 1st class is more than the 2nd class. The c class only few.


Went to km.16 house of Ana and Paiva. Ana made Coffee milk for me. After that accompanied us to buy Shirley pregnant clothes.


April 13, 1994 (Wednesday) raining for the whole morning.



April 14, 1994 (Thursday) Ole came at 3:45 and brought my  500 US$ in Guarani(947500) salary.

Quintana gone to Asuncion at 1:45 P.M.


April 15,1994 (Friday) Produced Guatambu At around 10:30 A.M no power (light) until 3:45.

The workers cleared the factory surroundings.

Shirley received letter from home. Jeans graduation was in March 22.

April 16, 1994 (Saturday) Went to ciudad. Eat in the Tokyo restaurant. We ate mix food of Chinese.

We wanted to buy Sewing Machine but they do not have English Catalogue.

I went alone to Post office to collect mails while Shirley  went Centro for shopping.
We met in Supermercado.

We arrived in Macosur 6:00 P.M It is already dark. Sometime we would come back late from the city like today, but never later then that.

 A raining day until 4:30PM.

Rosie is pregnant

April 4 1994 (Monday) Working day started after Easter Holiday.


April 05, 1994 (Tuesday) Went to Caballero shop and asked Caballero to find a maid for us. There we sat and drank Coca cola and also ate bread.

Cooked chicken adobo and gave the chicken bone to Rosie (dog) because she is pregnant.

 Lorenies birthday today.

Making chairs

April 1,1994 (Friday) Make my weekly report.  I prepare weekly report on each Friday afternoon. Ready by end of the day for Shirley to fax to Asuncion. With that we completed another week of work. The next day is Saturday week end start.

While Shirley was cleaning the house enjoying music from the radio, wife of Luis came with chipa.

Today onward, Christian do not eat meat. We have instant noodle instead. Shirley gave one pack also to the wife of Luis to cook noodle for Luis.

Luis got us some orange. We eat a lot of oranges in Paraguay.

 Afternoon, I continued making chairs until night.

At night cooking gas ran out. Shirley went to Caballero (Night) to buy gas for cooking.


April 2, 1994 (Saturday) I went alone to Ciudad del este to buy screw, and a blower for Shirley, and
medicine of Aderman (Antimicotico).

Then   to Chinese Restaurant and bought food take out for two.


Reach home at 1: 45 P.M After lunch went over to office to continue the chair.  I made the chairs outside my office.

March 28,1994(Monday)

March 29,1994 (Tuesday)
   Today  is  the last day of working day this month  because  of Easter Holidays.
   At  3:30  while Shirley counting inventory I  continue the work of making arm chairs.




March 30,1994 (Wednesday)
   Today is non-working day. Easter holiday started today.

We went to  Ciudad to collect letters and it's our first time  to go  to Fuji Supermercado.

It is also our first time to  buy baby things : Farlin Blanket and towel.

   The usual Chinese buffet restaurant where we used to eat already close business. We found a new place in Fogo building to eat Chinese lunch there are  three different restaurants there.

   We came back at 6:30 by the time we reach home it was  raining so we got wet.


March 31, 1994 (Thursday)
   Went  to  Km.16 to buy screw and to make  photocopy  of  my
form.

The shop for buying screw was close, After the photocopy  we bought  4 small cakes with fruits on top, 2 bananas and rice.

In the afternoon I continued making the chair until
night. At night we have pancit with sardines.

The Triple Frontier is junction of 3 countries Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil, where the Iguazú River and Paraná rivers meet.

Near the Triple Frontier are the cities of Ciudad del Este, Alto Paraná; Puerto Iguazú, Misiones and Foz do Iguaçu, Paraná. This area is near Iguazú Falls and the Itaipú hydroelectric plant.

  In Ciudad del Este after eating lunch (Chinese Restaurant).  Shirley vomited on the way. Taste of a soup.



March 26,1994 (Saturday)
  Normal work day today in exchange a longer Easter Holidays.


March 27,1994 (Sunday)
   In  the Morning Mr. Quintana invited Paul and us to  go  to
Argentina to see the 3 Frontiers Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.


We  had 3 photos there. After that we went for lunch Dragon  Restaurant (Chinese)

Fingerprints for the police

March 09,1994 (Wednesday)
  Silvina  accompanied Shirley to go to Km.16 to have my  fingerprints in  front of police officer but unluckily we weren't able to  get what we want .

The police ask us to go to ciudad del este  another police asks us to go to Asuncion because the Chinese Consulate  is in Asuncion.

  We  invite Silvina to eat in Chinese Restaurant. It is  already 12:00 when we reach home.


March 10,1994 (Thursday)
   Ole  called  me and suggest me ask in the Philippines  to  get Police Clearance for me.


March 11,1994 (Friday)
  Shirley telephoned  home  at 5:30 A.M (Cora) and asked  her  to  get Police Clearance for me.

  Went  for monthly check up in Km.41. After that we  ate  soup noodle and then directly to supermercado to buy something.

Iguazú Falls - World's 2nd largest waterfall

6th March 1994 Sunday


In the morning we went to Brazil (Cataratas) to see the second biggest waterfall. We took few photographs there.

Iguazú Falls can be visited from 2 countries - Brazil and Argentina.

The Brazilian side of the falls has more crowded than the Argentinean side because Brazil side has only one path leading to the falls. Brazil side the views are more panoramic, but Argentinean side has more falls.

Visitor need to stick to the allotted areas and walkways.

After that we directly go to Chinese restaurant and eat delicious food. Mr. Quintana paid 75000 guaranies.

I am still fasting so I just sit beside. They packed the left over for me.

Backed home, I put the rabbit mouse in the cage of the chicken. The rabbit mouse bites me.

Persimmon tree is ridden with ripe fruits. I climb up.

Looking for baby shop

March 04,94 (Friday)
  Grass cutter found  a  rabbit mouse. I bought the rabbit mouse for 10,000 guaranies.


March 05,94(Saturday)
   We walk and walk looking for shops selling baby things and maternity dress. We came to a place selling baby FARLIN brand.

We  walk  in  Lai Lai to find the printer ribbon but unable to find.

  At night we sat in the garden and drink cola.
