November 03, 1994 (Thursday) At about 9:00 we watched the eclipse (sun covered by the moon) outside the house.

It was become dark like night. After the eclipse Maria and Shirley went to CDE and I took care of Xing Xing.

November 06, 1994 (Sunday) We only stayed at home because it was raining.

November 12, 1994 (Tuesday)

Shirley and Ana slaughtered the white cock.

Ana sweat a lot. Half of that cock given to Ana.

November 18, 1994 (Friday) Gone to Asuncion. took the 9:00 bus.

November 23, 1994 (Wednesday) Gone to Asuncion .

November 24, 1994 (Thursday) Maria accompanied Shirley to hospital for the 2nd month check up of Xing Xing is now 6 kilos and 640g.

November 25, 1994 (Friday) Doctor came to the house at around 11:30 A.M for Xing Xing's injection. He injected 2 legs of Xing Xing. The payment was 170,000 guaranies.

Came back at around 10:00 P.M from Asuncion.

November 26, 1994 (Saturday) Lorenie came here to watch Xing Xing , Shirley sew her civil wedding clothes, starting 12:00 noon and finished at around 5:30 P.M.

October 24, 1994 (Monday) We weren't able to go to hospital For Xing's check up, it was raining
Shirley taught Elvira (Sra. Francisco) how to cook pancit noodle in their house but without meat. Sr. and Sra. likes to eat pancit



October 25, 1994(Tuesday) We rode taxi (friend of Silvina) to hospital vise versa. The weight of Xing Xing is now 3 kilos 750 g. He is 52 cm. and the measure of his head is 36.5 cm. Xing Xing did not cry at all when the doctor checking him in the hospital.

Xing Xing has difficulty in bowling so when he passed stool he cried so loud.

In the afternoon Ana came together with baby son Christian. She asked to take photo of Xing Xing and Christian.

Oct. 10, 1994 (Monday) Shirley went to Hospital (Km.41) w/ Maria for Chun Xing's 2nd check up. The doctor told to wash Chun Xing w/ boiled Guava leaves and w/ medical soap and creme.

Went over to Supermercado for shopping.


Oct 20, 1994 (Thursday) Maria and Shirley went to CDE it was raining They bought some ingredients for cooking this coming Saturday. We are going to celebrate one month old of Xing Xing.

I stay at home to take care of Xing Xing.


October 21, 1994 (Friday) Shirley busy chopping the ingredients (vegetable) for tomorrow. while I took care of Xing Xing.


October 22, 1994 (Saturday) We celebrated 1 month old of Xing Xing. Invited some friends. Cooked barbeque chasiw and chicken, noodle (pancit) and chicken curry.Sr. and Sra. Francisco asked Shirley to teach Elvira cooking pancit and curry.

It was raining, so we did not eat in the garden but instead we eat in the veranda of Sr. francisco.

Oct 07, 1994 (Friday) Went to Asuncion for inspection in Dr. Millanies factory.
Mr. Ole came to Macosur together w/ his family.

Admitted to hospital again

Oct. 01, 1994 (Saturday) Went back to hospital to remove Shirley stitches. After removing stitches suddenly vomiting, stomach pain at the same time diarrhea.

Doctor confined her in hospital Saturday 12:00 midday up to Monday morning.


Oct 03, 1994 (Monday) Before Shirley release from hospital CHUN XING has his checkup.

We paid 268840 guaranies for Shirley confine and 15000 guaranies for CHUN XING'S first check up.

Sept 24, 1994 (Saturday) At 6:00 A.M the sign of labor arrived.

At around 11:15  went to hospital. The hospital is only half day starting to close when we arrived.



At around 7:00 Pm. Dr. Tanaka (Japanese) told us that it's easier  to be caesarian

At 7:42 the baby already delivered and started crying.


Sept.25, 1994 (Sunday) It's already afternoon when we first feed the baby (bottle feeding)


Sept 27, 1994 (Tuesday) The infermero asked us to come back on Saturday.


We're out from hospital and paid our bill and back to Macosur. Couldn’t find taxi so telephoned Sr. Francisco to fetch us and Caballero came after 30 minutes.

Sept. 11, 1994 (Sunday) Went to Maria Jose's house for her 1st birthday party.

Sept. 15, 1994 (Thursday) Today is expected date of delivery but no sign yet.


Mr. Ole and me went to Ciudad del este to discuss about the selling of machine


Sept. 16, 1994 (Friday) Caballero sent us to hospital for check up. The doctor asked to come back again on Tuesday if without any show of delivery. We bought 1 sack of Japanese rice and corn for the chicken and cock.

We have a chicken and a cock.


Black Mulberry-Morus nigra

The Black mulberry (Morus nigrais) is a flowering plant in the family Moraceae (mulberry family), tribe Moreae.

A common tree grown in the plain for shade.

The dark purple colored fruit is edible, but is rarely eaten by the local people.


The berry-like fruit of the Black Mulberry  has a very tart, sweet taste.

The Black Mulbery is a medium sized tree usually only reaching 20-30 ft, but has been know to reach up to 70ft tall.

The tree  prefer full sun.

The Mulberry has a long history in Chinese medicine with all parts of the tree, including the fruit, used to treat a wide range of ailments. The fruit is considered to have a tonic effect on the kidneys as well as helping digestive functions and premature greying of the hair.

Nearby is also a Persimmon tree with fruits no one seem like to eat.

Mr. Ole w/ a friend from England came to discussed with the Chinese buyer about the selling of the machines.

August 26,1994 (Friday) Lorenie discovered that the water was smelly and there's a died mouse on the well.

August 28,1994 (Sunday) Feeling geedy. The whole day sitting on the arm chair. Did not eat anything.

August 29,1994 (Monday) We went to Km.41 for  check up. Doctor checks my blood (Analysis). We'll come back tomorrow for the result. Mr. Francisco sent us and also wait for us.

August 30,1994 (Tuesday) Went back to Km.41 to get the result of Analysis. The doctor said It is fine. But the nurse said his blood pressure is low.

August 31,1994 (Wednesday) Jose cleaned the tank.   

Bush fire

1994 Forest Fire

August 23, 1994 (Tuesday) There's a strong bush fire. The fire was started from the neighbor at 4:00 in the afternoon. At 6:30 it's already in Macosur's land.

The firemen came for three times. I helped Luis (guard) and Caballero to stop the fire going to Ramirez house. We took photograph behind the fire.

Each winter there will be a bush fire in the wilderness at the North of our factory, but this year of 1994 is the most serious according to the local. This happen to be our first winter in Paraguay (We came at Spring last year after Winter) to witness an exciting bush fire that last for 2 weeks. On 23rd August 1994 night fall the fire reached perilously close almost 50 meters to factory building. This is a dangerous zone.

Louis, the security guide with a gun in the photo, called the other 3 factory staff who live just opposit the factory across the highway and together a team of 6 of us (including me in the picture) tried to cut out a line on the dried grass land to stop the fire from advancing toward the factory.

The most valuable assets of this factory are the wood flooring (property of the Paraguay company) and the 4 sets of wood working machines (belonging to my Taiwanese company)

With the help of wind direction, we managed to preventing the fire from advancing, thought the fire stay strong and continued to burn for the next few days.

Fortunately the fire was brought under control, though not extinguished, before it reached the factory. Thanks to the efforts of the Louis, Kabarello and Nelson and his son. Fortunatly they all live near by.

The next morning, the fire around subsided. (photo above), but at the distand field the small fire continue for the next few days.

Where does the fire came from?

On the north of our factory is a maize field of few acares. Before the farmers start their planting each Spring, local farmers usually deliberately setting small blazes to land-clearing. Strong wind and dry weather promote the fire to cover much greater area.

Spring season came after the fire incident on 23-8-1994 and exactly 1 month later Wong Chun Xing was born on 24-9-1994. We named him CHUN XING means Spring Star. (Should have named him Fire Spring).

Now the above group photos of the smiling faces against a background fierce fire bring back so much warm memories of our exciting days in the far distant country Paraguay.

August 24,1994 (Wednesday) Workers worked outside the factory because of too much smoke from the fire last night. It's painful for the eye.

Luis was absent. Jose was the guard. At night the fire started again going at the back of Machimbradora line. Jose called the firemen again. Sr. Francisco rode in the bulldozer to take some water and trying to stop the fire.

August 25,1994 (Thursday) The workers finished their worked at 2:00. They will go to cemetery.

Francisco , Marcelo and us had a walk to take photo of the burned land.

Wooden washing machine

August 16,1994 (Tuesday)

Maria, and us with Caballero car went to Km41 (Supermercado) to buy  wooden washing machine and vacuum cleaner.

August 19,1994 (Friday) The mama of Marcelo was looking for him for how many minutes. They found Marcelo in the house in front of the computer.

August 21,1994 (Sunday) Making a shelf in the store room.

Office renovation

August 13,1994 (Saturday) To Ciudad del Este . Bought the air pot worth 96 U.S$ also a jean cloth for making bag for putting baby's things whenever we stroll.

August 14,1994 (Sunday) Went to Km.41 bought 2 cans of paint (yellow and white). Painted the store room (stripe) while Shirley sewing the jeans bag.

August 15,1994 (Monday) Today has no work(Asuncion Day). Jose, Cabana and Eduardo came to cement the office (red).The wife of Jose and the son also came. Shirley cooked barbeque fish and veg. curry.

Went to Ciudad del Este. Eat lunch in Tokyo restaurant this time is boufey (eat as many as you can )for only 6000 guaranies.

August 08,1994 (Monday) After 5:00 P.M Raul sent us to Km.16 to buy bed for baby and

the baby bath at the same time we also bought our bed. The shop sent us to macosur.

August 12,1994 (Friday) Went to Km.41 for Shirley 8th monthly pregnancy check up. The doctor told to go on 8th or 9th next month. Expected date will be on 15th of September.

Brought the computer set and the table to  the house for Jose to cement the floor.

Going to Assunsion

August 03,1994 (Wednesday) Went to Ciudad again to buy ticket for tomorrow going to Asuncion.

Bought 4 diskette again.

August 04,1994 (Thursday) Gone going to Asuncion with 9:00 A.M bus (Nuestra Sra. dela Asuncion). In the afternoon Maria came to office to learn typing tutor.

August 05,1994 (Friday)

Got my  2000 dollars (salary) and return at night after sending Paul and Howard to Airport.
